Dozens of people turned out at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill this afternoon as ground was broken on a $20 million expansion that will dramatically increase the size of the emergency department.
Medical director Doctor Chad Eller says this year Piedmont’s emergency department will see about 68,000 patients.
“The renovation will double our current square footage from 21,000 square feet to 42,000 square feet,” Eller said, “taking us from 26 private rooms to 37 private examination rooms, as well as an additional 16 treatment areas resulting in 52 treatment areas to better serve our community.”
Eller says the last renovation of PMC’s emergency department happened in 1996. Piedmont has already spent about $500,000 dollars on new equipment for the expansion.
