The threat of rain Thursday was no match for the kickoff of Rock Hill’s eighth annual ChristmasVille festival.
Hundreds packed into the City Club on East Main Street for a revised, indoor version of the opening festivities and Lighting of the Village.
“It makes you fee like you’ve come home,” said Debbie Garrick, 2013 ChristmasVille Festival Chair. “It’s that hometown feeling — that hometown atmosphere the thing that really gets people into the season of Christmas.”
The four-day festival runs through Sunday with approximately 70 events over the weekend.
Tonight, the annual Rock Hill Christmas Parade starts at 6:30 p.m. on Oakland Avenue at Stewart Avenue. The route has changed this year due to construction on the Fountain Park downtown.
The route snakes along Oakland Avenue, turning right on E. Main Street and ending at the Wells Fargo Center.
Oakland Ave. will be closed starting at 2 p.m. Friday. E. White Street will be used as a post-parade dispersal area for floats and will not be available as a viewing perch for 2013.
The remainder of area roads will reopen immediately following the parade. E. White Street will reopen following the departure of all floats.
