ROCK HILL, SC–The undefeated Winthrop women’s basketball team is ranked No. 7 in the latest Realtime RPI marking the first time in the program’s history that it has been ranked in the top 10.
Coach Kevin Cook’s Eagles were as high as No. 5 going into their Monday night game against Saint Louis, but slipped two spots despite a 70-61 win over the Billikens.
The Eagles are now 3-0 against NCAA Div. I competition with wins over College of Charleston, Davidson (who was undefeated at the time) and Saint Louis. Only games against Div. I opponents are counted in the RPI rankings.

Winthrop will try to keep its winning streak going on Saturday when it hosts William and Mary at 1 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader at the Winthrop Coliseum.
The 3-0 start is the best in the program’s history since the 1982-83 team accomplished that feat 31 years ago when the Winthrop Coliseum first opened. The Eagles now have an opportunity to accomplish something that hasn’t happened in 41 years if they can win on Saturday. The 1972-73 team won its first five games on the way to a 17-7 season when Winthrop was a member of the AIAW (Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women).
