ROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop women’s basketball duo of Dequesha McClanahan and Erica Williams have been honored by the Big South Conference as the Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, following their performances in the Eagles’ victories over Saint Louis and William and Mary, the league office announced today.
McClanahan, a 5-8 senior point guard from Oak Ridge, TN, averaged 20 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists to lead Winthrop past Saint Louis (91-76) and William and Mary (84-71). She had her second double-double of the season against Saint Louis with a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds. She just missed the second triple-double of her career against William and Mary with 15 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. She extended her double-figure scoring streak to 26 games.
For Williams, a 5-10 forward/guard from Rex, GA, this marks her third straight week as the league’s Freshman of the Week honoree. She averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds in the two games. She scored 19 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists vs. SLU, and followed that with her first collegiate double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds against W&M. She connected on 9 of 12 FGs vs. the Tribe and for the week went 15 of 25 (60 pct.).
