Winthrop Men’s Golfers Are Tied For 6th Place After First Round of CSU 2013 Wendy’s Kiawah Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC–The Winthrop men’s golf team is tied for sixth place after the first round of the 54-hole CSU 2013 Wendy’s Kiawah Classic as the Eagles shot 295 on Sunday.

The Eagles are tied with Towson in the 15-team field while South Carolina is the first round leader after shooting 5-under 283 at the par 72, 7,100-yard Turtle Point Golf Club. The Gamecocks lead second place Radford by eight strokes heading into Monday’s second round. The Big South Conference is well-represented as Presbyterian College and the host Charleston Southern Buccaneers are tied for third at 292.

Winthrop redshirt freshman Christian Sease (Mount Pleasant, SC) led Winthrop with a 1-under 71 while another freshman, Zach Seabolt (Raleigh, NC) is at 1-over 73 and is tied for 17th. Junior Taylor Dickson (Gastonia, NC) is another shot back at 74 and is tied for 29th. Junior Sam Whitehead (Milton Keynes, England) is tied at 57th after shooting 77. Sophomore Nick Eberhardt (Fort Mill, SC) had 80 and is tied for 78th place.
