CHARLOTTE, NC – Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Lenz has been named to the Big South Defensive Player of the Week it was announced Monday by the conference office.
Lenz, a native of Lancaster, PA, had a standout performance both offensively and defensively against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.
In the five-set victory for the Eagles, Lenz recorded a career-high 21 kills and tied her career-high in blocks with nine total. She also added three more blocks, including two solo Friday evening against Gardner-Webb and also tallied four digs.
This honor is the first for Lenz this season and her first defensive award of her career. This is the second consecutive week that an Eagle has been honored.
Winthrop will take on its final non-conference opponent of the season Tuesday on the road at The Citadel before hosting Presbyterian on Friday at 7 p.m. in the regular-season finale.
