ROCK HILL, SC–Winthrop senior guard Dequesha McClanahan was honored during Wednesday night’s men’s basketball game for breaking the women’s career scoring record last Sunday against College of Charleston.
Head Coach Kevin Cook and Athletic Director Tom Hickman made the presentation to McClanahan.
McClanahan surpassed Kim Segars’ mark of 1,699 points which had stood for 25 years. The Oak Ridge, TN product and two-time Big South Conference Player of the Year scored 17 points against the Cougars and now holds the Winthrop record at 1,708 points. She is now 143 points shy of breaking Charles Brunson’s all-time Winthrop scoring record of 1,850 points.
She is also on target to break the Winthrop women’s career assist record. She needs 64 more to pass Shelia Bailey’s mark of 595.
