A multi-car wreck sent several people to area hospitals Friday night after a suspected drunk driver plowed into four cars stopped at stop light on Cherry Road.
At 8:01 p.m. Friday, police say a Chester County man behind the wheel of a Ford Windstar was driving South on Cherry Road when he crossed into the center median and struck a small tree before crossing back into the right side of the road. The driver then struck a cross walk sign and signal, before hitting two cars stopped on Ebinport Road.
This started a chain reaction, where investigators say those two stopped cars then collided with two other vehicles stopped at the intersection, officer Christopher Rowe said.
Several people were taken by ambulance to Piedmont Medical Center and Carolinas Medical Center-Main for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
WRHI has since learned one of the victims hospitalized was a woman 36 weeks pregnant and had to be removed from her vehicle using the Jaws of Life.
Ricky Anderson, 48, of Richburg was charged with Driving Under the Influence in connection with Friday’s incident. Anderson was treated for his injuries at Piedmont Medical Center and later released into police custody.
The Rock Hill Police Department’s S.T.A.R. Team spent much of the night investigating the incident. Witnesses reported Ebinport Road and the southbound lanes of Cherry Road were closed for several hours.
