ROCK HILL, SC–Winthrop swept the Big South Conference men’s weekly golf awards for a second time this fall as junior Taylor Dickson was selected Big South Golfer of the Week after capturing the 2013 Pinetree Intercollegiate medalist honor, and Zach Seabolt was named Freshman of the Week after tying for second in that event which was held in Kennesaw, Georgia.
The Eagles also captured both honors following their opening tournament this fall at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa when Seabolt received Golfer of the Week and Weston Bell was named Freshman of the Week.
Dickson and Seabolt helped lead coach Kevin Pendley’s squad to a second place finish in the 12-team event earlier this week at Pinetree Country Club.
Dickson (Gastonia, NC) finished at 3-under par 213 (75-68-70) in the 54-hole event. The win marks his second collegiate victory and first since he shared medalist honors with teammate Damon Postal in the 2011 Maryland Intercollegiate–his very first college tournament. After tying for 19th-place following the first round, Dickson was 6-under the final 36 holes to capture medalist honors by two strokes.
Seabolt (Raleigh, NC) finished at 1-under 215 (76-66-73). His 6-under 66 in the second round featured six birdies and no bogeys and pushed him into the second-place after 36 holes. Seabolt has now finished in the top 10 in all three fall tournaments.
