BOONE, NC—Winthrop’s women placed 16th out of 27 schools while the men’s team finished 18th out of 28 schools in the Blue Ridge Open Cross Country Meet held in Boone, NC this past weekend.
The Eagle women were led by senior Shayna Jenkins who finished 31st in the field of 216 runners. She covered the 5K distance in a time of 19:09.12. The Winthrop men were led by sophomore Colby Coulter who ran a time of 25:45.29 in the 8K to finish 44th out of 229 runners.
Furman captured the women’s team title as it had three of the top 10 individual finishers and totaled 45 points. The host Appalachian State Mountaineer men captured the 8K with 102 points.
The other finishers for the Winthrop women were as follows: Lisa Nichols (69th, 19:44.80); Sarah Devaux (92nd, 20:06.72); Jessica Whitmire (93rd, 20:07.91); Alexis Miller (135th, 21:15.60); Jaclyn Baker (153rd, 22:09.32).
The remaining Winthrop men’s finishers were as follows: Ellis Coe (86th, 26:31.94); Gabe Holguin (121st, 27:20.49); Blake White (130th, 27:30.67); Allen Ownley (143rd, 28:01.55); Braxton Sheriff (153rd, 28:23.98); Mathew Egbert (200th, 29:06.12).
Winthrop will return to competition on Nov. 2 when it travels to Lexington, VA for the Big South Conference Championships which are being hosted by VMI.
