Following this summer’s heavy rains that delayed some work at the future BMX Track at th Rock Hill Outdoor Center, work on the project is back at full steam.

Construction of the track is underway, while additional soccer and baseball fields are on the deck in the near future.

This week, Rock Hill City Manager David Vehaun gave WRHI an update on the project. Manning Kimmel had a few minutes to speak with Vehaun about the work.

In March, Rock Hill City Council approved the agreement with USA BMX, Inc. to build the track. USA BMX expects to bring 34 events on its own to Rock Hill annually, with an additional 25,000-30,000 more visitors per year.

When the BMX track is finished, the Rock Hill site will be one of only two of its type in the country — the other being a U.S. Olympic training center in Chula Vista, Calif.

The track is expected to be open for business in Spring 2014.
