Steven Patrick Leads Men’s Tennis Efforts At Wofford Invitational
SPARTANBURG, SC–Sophomore Steven Patrick captured the No. 1 singles flight and teamed with sophomore Corey DeCandia to win the No. 1 doubles flight as they led the Winthrop men’s tennis team in the Wofford Invitational over the weekend.
Patrick (Knoxville, TN) claimed the singles title by dispatching Benjamin Kaszas of Gardner-Webb (6-2, 6-2), Haris Poric of Wofford (1-6, 6-2, 10-5), and Appalachian State’s Seb King (7-5, 3-6, 10-7). Patrick and DeCandia (Adelaide, Australia) defeated Wofford’s Poric and Walker Heffron (8-6) and App State’s duo of King and Zack Bost (8-6). DeCandia also finished as the No. 2 singles runner-up while sophomore Michael Chen (Johnson City, TN) was runner-up in No. 3 singles.
Winthrop will return to action on Thursday when it travels to Cary, NC to participate in the four-day USTA/ITA Carolina Regionals.
