GREENVILLE, NC–The Winthrop women’s golf team could not make up any ground in the final round on Tuesday of the 2013 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate and finished 12th out of 16 schools at the Greenville Country Club.
The Lady Eagles shot 313 for the final 18 holes and finished the 54-hole event at 938 (319-306-313), one shot ahead of William & Mary. East Tennessee State, ranked 43rd in the nation, won the tournament as the Lady Bucs held off Middle Tennessee and host East Carolina for the victory. ETSU finished at 897 (288-308-301) as it led from wire-to-wire. MTSU was four shots back at 901 followed by ECU at 904.
Medalist honors went to Middle Tennessee’s Avery George, who finished at 1-under 215
Winthrop’s top individual was junior Viivi Nuorti (Helsinki, Finland) who shot 75 on Tuesday to finish at 230 (78-77-75) and tied for 25th place. Next was sophomore Jennifer Dilger (Palmdale, CA) who tied for 34th place at 232 (81-72-79). Senior Meagan Wallace (Charlotte, NC) came in tied for 53rd place after finishing at 238 (80-78-80), one shot ahead of freshman Allison Kuntz (Austin, TX) who was at 239 (80-80-79) and tied for 57th place. Rock Hill native Anna Jenkins finished at 243 (84-79-80) and tied for 66th place.
Winthrop will return to action next week when it competes in the 2013 Courtyard Classic in Jacksonville, Oct. 13-15.
