ROCK HILL, SC—TopDrawerSoccer.com released its annual Top 100 Freshmen in men’s soccer at the NCAA Division I level and Winthrop’s Max Hasenstab made the list at 11th.
Hasenstab has seven goals and five assists on the season to help Winthrop to a 7-4-1 mark overall. His ranking of 11th is the highest of any freshmen in the Big South as the only other conference player listed was Coastal Carolina’s Sergio Camargo at 54th.
He made an immediate impact for the Eagles in the season opener as he assisted on the game-winning goal over Georgia Southern. In his second game he scored the first goal in a 2-1 victory over Wofford. On Sept 15 against Stetson, Hasenstab had a goal and two assists and started a scoring streak of five games in which he had five goals and four assists.
Prior to the Coastal Carolina game on Wednesday, Hasenstab ranked 11th in the country in scoring and has been among the Top 15 for most of the season. On Sept. 30 he was named the Big South Conference Attacking Player of the Week for his game-winning goals in two games that week for the Eagles. For those efforts, he was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week, named the CollegeSportsMadness Big South Conference Player of the Week and featured in an “On Campus” article at MLSsoccer.com.
