ROCK HILL, SC—The start to the 2013 season has been an impressive one for the Winthrop men’s soccer team as it has tied the program’s best start to a season without a loss.
The strong start has the Eagles 31st in the first RPI ratings of the 2013 season. Winthrop is tied with Houston Baptist, St. Francis (NY), Coastal Carolina, Boston College and Milwaukee for the most road wins of the season. However, the six wins away from home are the most by any team in the country ahead of Northwestern with five.
This year’s squad along with the 1994 team went the first eight games of the season without a loss and both posted a record of 7-0-1 in that span. One of the most remarkable parts of the strong start for Winthrop is the fact that seven of the eight games this season have been away from home. Winthrop is 4-0-1 in away games and 2-0 on neutral sites. The Eagles are also one of only nine teams in the country without a loss through games played Monday, Sept. 30.
