Final Round Of JU Classic Is Washed Out; Winthrop Women Finish 9th

JACKSONVILLE, FL–The final round of the 54-hole JU Classic, hosted by Jacksonville University at Marsh Landing Country Club, was cancelled due to unplayable conditions. Winthrop finished ninth out of 12 teams after shooting a 36-hole total of 616 on Monday, and senior Meagan Wallace finished in a five-way tie for eighth place with a score of 149, including an opening round of 3-under 69.

Junior Jennifer Dilger (Palmdale, CA) finished three shots behind Wallace at 152 (75-77) and tied for 21st place. Five spots further back was freshman Louise Jeppeson (Vken, Sweden) who tied for 26th place at 154 (80-74). Rounding out the Winthrop performers was junior Rachel Wyatt (Blythewood, SC) in 52nd place at 162 (80-82), and junior Viivi Nuorti (Helsinki, Finland) finished 62nd place at 172 (91-81).

College of Charleston was declared the winning team after shootingt 590 a(297-293) on Monday. The tourney medalist was Jacqueline Shelly of 11th place Florida Atlantic who shot a 1-under par 143.

Winthrop will be back in action Oct. 21-22 when the Eagles travel to Buies Creek, NC for the Fighting Camel Classic, hosted by Campbell University.
