Bond was set Thursday morning for a North Carolina couple who were arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection a string of armed robberies across York and Lancaster counties.

Tiffany Mayhew, 32 and Christopher Washington, 36, both of Kannapolis, N.C., face multiple charges in connection with the kidnapping and robbery of two payday loan stores in Rock Hill. Investigators also say they are probing the duo’s alleged involvement in similar robberies in Lancaster.

Mayhew and Washington both face charges of Armed Robbery, Kidnapping and Criminal Conspiracy.

Rock Hill police spokesman Mark Bollinger said a detective driving on Cherry Road noticed the couple’s green Honda Passport, identified as a vehicle of interest. The detective pursued the vehicle before initiating a traffic stop at the Citgo station on Cherry Road at Oakland Avenue.

A black backpack full of money and a BB gun were recovered from the vehicle.

Bollinger said in both cases, the suspects tied up the lone employee with zip ties before fleeing with cash.
