The Winthrop women’s golf team finished third in the Myrtle Beach Invitational while junior Jennifer Dilger took third place in medal play in the six-team, 36-hole event that concluded Tuesday afternoon at Myrtle Beach National.
Winthrop shot 309 in the second round and finished at 619 (310-309), just one shot behind second place Gardner-Webb. High Point, the host school for the event, claimed the team title by finishing at 602 (299-303).
Dilger (Palmdale, CA) shot 76 on Tuesday and finished at 5-over 149 (73-76). She finished one shot behind Presbyterian College’s Abby Driscoll at 148. High Point’s Sarah Bae won medalist honors by finishing at 4-under 140.
Senior Meagan Wallace (Charlotte, NC) shot 151 (76-75) to finish sixth. Junior Viivi Nuorti (Helsinki, Finland) tied for 11th at 156 (80-76) while junior Rachel Wyatt (Blythewood, SC) tied for 21st place with a 163 (81-82). Rounding out the Winthrop performances was freshman Louise Jeppersen (Vken, Sweden) with 167 (82-85) which tied her for 29th place.
Coach Jodi Wendt’s squad will be back in action Oct. 7-8 when it travels to Greenville, NC to play in the Lady Pirate Invitational, hosted by East Carolina.
