Ex-Rock Hill City Manager tapped as interim head of Upper Palmetto Cross

Former Rock Hill City Manager Carey Smith has been named as the interim Executive Director for the Upper Palmetto Red Cross chapter in Rock Hill.

“The entire board was thrilled that Carey was willing to take this position,” said Senator Wes Hayes, chairman of the board of directors for the Upper Palmetto Chapter.  “Carey was a well respected City Manager for Rock Hill, and he cares about the needs of his community and understands the critical role the Red Cross plays in supporting the community.”

As Interim Executive Director, Smith hopes to enhance the chapters relationships in the community. He will work closely with the chapter’s board of directors and will assist with the operating responsibilities and fundraising activities for the Chapter. Smith will also assist with the recruitment and selection of a permanent Executive Director.

Smith retired as City Manager for the City of Rock Hill in November, 2010 following a lengthy career in public service in South Carolina and Florida.  Since his retirement, he has served in an interim capacity as City Manager for the cities of Georgetown and Hardeeville.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve the community in this capacity,”  said Carey Smith, Interim Director of the Upper Palmetto Chapter of the American Red Cross . “I am looking forward to working beneficially with the great board, staff, volunteers and donors that help fulfill the mission of the Red Cross in Rock Hill.”
