All five of the remaining candidates for York county Manager filed through council chambers Tuesday night as county council interviewed the finalists for the job.

But minutes before midnight, council returned to open session and voted to narrow the search down to two — including Steve Layson and Bill Shanahan.

Layson is the Chief Administrative Officer of Bibb County, Ga., while Shanahan is the Deputy City Administrator of Augusta, Ga.,

Council spent nearly six and a half hours behind closed doors interviewing the candidates, with council members Curwood Chappell and Bruce Henderson exiting early.

Council will likely meet August 21 for those next around of interviews. The next County Manager could be named as early as that night.
