Starting next year, work on West White Street from Wilson Street to Stewart Street as part of York County’s Pennies for Progress road improvement program.

Phil Leazer manages that program and says another part of it calls for extending White Street to Constitution Boulevard and creating a multi-lane traffic circle.
Leazer says that specific part of the project ties into Winthrop University’s future plans.

Leazer says right of way acquisition for the improvements on White Street between Wilson Street and Stewart Street is already underway.

Pennies for Progress is York County’s one-cent sales tax program first approved by voters in 1997 to build thousands of miles of new roads. The program was again approved in voters in 2003 and 2011.

In total, voters have approved 53 road projects worth over $545 million.
