The Old Town Bistro closed its doors earlier this year

A new restaurant is opening in Old Town Rock Hill next month at the site of what used to be the Old Town Bistro.

Selena Kelemen, the managing partner of the Fish Market in Baxter Village, will own what will soon be the “Five and Dime” on East Main Street.

Kelemen says when she first saw the space in downtown Rock Hill she already knew about the history of the Woolworth lunch counter, the Friendship Nine and the famous sit-ins more than 50 years ago.

Kelemen says the Five and Dime is tentatively scheduled to open September 26.

She says the restaurant will serve old American classics and comfort food.  She says the new eatery will also provide catering for the adjacent Palmetto Room.

Kelemen says the Five and Dime will employ 15-20 workers.

The Bistro was in the old McCrorey’s Dime store …that was the site of the Friendship Nine at the McCrorey’s lunch counter not the Woolworth’s lunch counter it was next door .
