ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop head men’s soccer coach Rich Posipanko announced Wednesday the signing of Pol Sole to a National Letter Of Intent.

Sole is from San Joan Despi, Spain and is transferring after attending University in Spain.

“It has taken longer than expected, but we have finally finalized our 2013 recruiting class,” said Posipanko. “This was a process that started months ago, but the required paperwork was just completed. We are pleased to add Pol Sole to our program. We feel he has the ability to contribute immediately and be an impact player. He will certainly add to the depth and raise the competitive atmosphere for playing time among the team.”

Posipanko describes Sole as a skillful midfielder that will bring maturity and leadership to the team. He hopes he can be the replacement for Alex Isern as being a very versatile player. “He is a very technical player which allows him to play any attacking role. We hope his maturity and experience allow him to add some additional leadership to the team.”

Winthrop returns 7-8 starters from the 2012 squad that made the postseason and advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA College Cup, the team’s fifth NCAA College Cup appearance in the last 11 seasons.
