Construction of Fort Mill’s Southern Bypass is underway — and Thursday night, area residents had their chance to weigh in on how the area might look in the years to come.

Town and county planners were on hand Thursday showing different concepts for what will eventually be the land use plan for the area on both sides of the bypass.

It’s a plan that’s welcomed with open arms from longtime Fort Mill residents like Vivian Ferrell.

Enlarged photos of building concepts all across the southeast were posted across the lower floor of the Spratt Building on Main Street in Fort Mill during the session and residents were invited to offer their comments on proposed ideas.

Regardless of what’s done, Fort Mill resident and State Rep. Raye Felder tells WRHI that there needs to be a mix of residential, business and industrial property — especially given the success of new construction of Rock Hill’s Riverwalk.

This year, three Charlotte companies have moved their corporate headquarters to York County in a mix of new and existing construction.
