The laundry and bath facility for the Blackmon Road community just outside Rock Hill reopened with a celebration Saturday.

The wash house had been closed for months because of the financial strain A Place for Hope had been suffering through.

Agape International Ministries stepped in to help the poverty-stricken community and reopen the wash house.

Among those who were part of the celebration this weekend was York County Councilman Bump Roddey.

Roddey says better days are hopefully ahead for residents in the Blackmon Road community.

Local Church Agape International Ministries kicked in the money needed to reopen the facility.

Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards visited the site with actor Danny Glover in November 2007. Edwards compared the Blackmon Road community to that of the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
