Just in time for the long Fourth of July weekend, the northbound lanes three and four of Interstate 77 at Cherry Road are now back open.
Late Wednesday afternoon, crews removed the jersey barriers and cones blocking the two right lanes of the Interstate after gaping holes were discovered weeks ago.
S.C. Department of Transportation engineer John McCarter says while this particular issue shut down a portion of the bridge for two weeks, his crews look out for problem spots on a consistent basis.
In early June, crews also discovered another gaping hole on the northbound lanes of the Interstate near Porter Road.
Those repairs were made in half a day.
