Congestion from Monday’s wreck rippled down I-77.

Two people were rushed to a Charlotte hospital late Monday afternoon following a collision involving a tractor-trailer in Rock Hill.

At 1:20 p.m., an 18-wheeler heading northbound in the far right hand lane experienced a mechanical issue with his truck, causing the truck to come to a stop in the far right hand lane, said Trooper Bill Rhyne of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

That’s when a Winnsboro man, Isaac Gadson, II, was driving behind the tractor-trailer and struck the 18-wheeler from behind.

Gadson was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, while another passenger was transported to CMC-Main by ambulance.

Rhyne said there were four juvenile passengers riding in the back of the truck and were not injured.

Everyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seat belt.

Gadson was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
