York man fires shots at deputy; later arrested by SWAT officers

York County’s SWAT team arrested a York man early Monday morning after deputies say he fired shots at a deputy trying to arrest him.

Police say they used a K-9 team to track 23-year-old Johnny Benfield in the woods off Sutton Springs Road after reportedly assaulting a man in a domestic dispute earlier in the evening.

During the search, Benfield fired two shots towards the deputy’s direction.

Benfield remains in jail without bond.

He is faces gun, burglary, and drug charges and remains in jail on $72,000 bond.

The deputy was not injured.
