Winthrop volleyball team receives transfer

ROCK HILL, SC–Winthrop volleyball head coach Bruce Atkinson has announced that 5-11 senior outside hitter Jackie Landers will join the Eagle program for the 2013 season after transferring from Azusa Pacific University in California.

In her three years at Azusa Pacific, Landers started in 106 of 108 matches and helped lead the Cougars to a 82-26 record. As a junior and sophomore she led her team in kills with 473 and 455, respectively, after ranking third as a freshman with 312. Prior to college, the Torrance, CA, native played varsity volleyball for four years at South Torrance High School where she was twice named Pioneer League Most Outstanding Player and all-league first team as a junior and senior.

“We are very excited to have Jackie join our team. Her experience and competitive spirit will make a great addition to our program,” said Atkinson who is entering his first season as Winthrop’s head coach.
