After two years as chairman of the Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation, Andy Shene exits his post — while new chair Greg Rutherford says he’ll be filling some incredibly large shoes.
Thursday night, Rutherford took over as head of the city’s economic development group on the cusp of a number of projects set to get underway under his leadership.
Rutherford is the president of York Technical College in Rock Hill.
Rutherford said his experience in higher education and workforce development will be a great asset to Rock Hill’s Knowledge Park and will include a heavy focus on bringing more jobs to the city’s downtown corridor.
And since he first moved to Rock Hill nearly seven years ago, Rutherford said he has always believed there was great potential for the city’s downtown core.
In the next two years, projects like 139 Main — a new apartment complex, the Old Town East office complex and the new Knowledge Park are set to start construction — and in some cases open for business.
