Construction on the Charlotte Knights’ new ballpark in uptown Charlotte remains on schedule as the AAA-affiliate of the Chicago White Sox plan their 2014 season opener in the Queen City.
Crews first broke ground on the facility nine months ago, and today, concrete and steel now resemble renderings of the future BB&T Ballpark.
Knights Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski says he sees the ballpark being a catalyst for Charlotte’s Third Ward.
This year, the Knights wrap up 23 years in Fort Mill with the construction of the new $54 million dollar ballpark.
York County Council has already agreed to sell the old ballpark to Charlotte fashion retailer Cato Corporation for $844,000 .
Cato plans to turn it an 260 surrounding acres into a new distribution center and mixed-use development.
