ROCK HILL, SC-Winthrop volleyball head coach Bruce Atkinson has announced that Jessie Vicic, a 5-9 setter, is transferring from Maryland Eastern Shore and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the upcoming 2013 season.

In just two years at UMES, Vicic (pronounced Viss-itch) became the all-time assists leader and earned First Team All-MEAC honors as a freshman and sophomore. She ranked first in the MEAC in 2012 with 1,384 assists and 10.73 assists per set while playing in 129 games and 34 matches.

“We are extremely excited to have Jessie join our team. She has the ability to run the up-tempo offense that we want and the tournament experience to assist us in competing for a conference championship,” said Atkinson, who is entering his first season as Winthrop’s head coach.

Vicic is a native of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and played high school volleyball for Forest Heights Collegiate Institute. She is the daughter of Lynn and Ned Vivic.

Winthrop will open the 2013 season August 30-31 when the Eagles host the Winthrop Classic.
