A traffic stop this morning in Rock Hill ended with an hour-long manhunt after a man wanted on shoplifting charges managed to break free from the rear of a patrol car.

Around 9 a.m. Wednesday, officers pulled over Attica Meade on suspicion of DUI.

Officers checked the identity of passenger Bernard Massey, and placed him in handcuffs after learning there were outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Rock Hill Police Lt. Brad Redfearn explains what happened next.

Redfearn says a reverse 911 call was made to businesses in the Tech Park area as Massey was more or less contained.

Massey now faces drug charges for possession of cocaine, escaping police and failure to identify.

Meade was charged with DUI and open container.
