ROCK HILL, SC–Three more volleyball signees have been added to the 2013 Winthrop roster, according to head coach Bruce Atkinson.
The three student-athletes include Kasse-Ann Dela Cruz, a 5-5 defensive specialist/libero from Honolulu, HI, and two players from Simpsonville, SC–Kim Adkins, a 5-6 defensive specialist/Libero who is transfering from Anderson University, and 5-11 middle/outside hitter Kelsey McCormick. With the addition of these signees, a total of eight players have now been added to next year’s squad.
Dela Cruz graduated from Moanalua High School where she lettered four years in volleyball. As a sophomore setter, she led her team to the Oahu Interscholastic Association Championship. She moved to libero as a junior and was a member of the seventh place Hawaii High School Athletic Association state tournament team and earned honorable mention All-State. She was named MVP of her senior year team and was the only senior selected from her team to play in the Oceanic Cable 16 Senior Volleyball Classic as a setter.
In addition to her high school accolades, Dela Cruz was a member of the Jammers Volleyball Club and Oahu Volleyball Club teams. As a club player, she appeared four times at the Junior Nationals and she was named to the Pakela Pre-Las Vegas All-Tournament Team.
Adkins, who will be a sophomore next season, graduated from Hillcrest High School before attending Anderson University. As a senior, she helped lead Hillcrest to a 14-0 South Carolina State Championship, a No. 1 state ranking and 49th in the nation. Adkins also played for Club South Upward Stars and helped that team to a third place finish in the AAU Nationals. She was named to the South Carolina All-Region and Palmetto All-Region teams.
McCormick is a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School and also played club volleyball for Club South Upward Stars. She helped lead her high school team to back-to-back Class 1-A State Championships. McCormick was selected to the 2011 All-Region team and the 2012 North-South All-Star team. In club, she was named to the 2010 and 2013 All-Region squads.
“We are very excited about the addition of Kasse-Ann, Kim and Kelsey to our team,” said Atkinson. “All three have enjoyed great success in the past and will bring this mentality with them to Winthrop. The addition of these student-athletes will significantly improve our ball control on the court and they will immediately compete for playing time.”
