Never give up.
Those were the words U.S. Congressman Jim Clyburn (D-S..) as he addressed graduates of Clinton College this weekend.
Clyburn says he’s often been asked how he rose from humble beginnings in Sumter to become the third-ranking member of the U-S House.
Clyburn told the graduates to never give up just because they’ve failed — even if it’s more than once. Because each experience is important.
He also encouraged graduates of the two-year college to find a role model to emulate in their chosen profession. He says his role model is former President Harry Truman, whom Clyburn says wasn’t given much of a chance to win in 1948.
He says people will be remembered for their successes and not their failures.
