York County’s Finest spent the day and night Thursday – and will continue Friday – to man the roof of the Krispy Kreme in Rock Hill.

But it’s all for a good cause.

This week, officers with the Rock Hill Police Department, York County Sheriff’s Office and the State Highway Patrol are giving up their own time standing for hours on top of the roof at the Celanese Road Krispy Kreme.

They are raising money for the South Carolina Special Olympics.

Detective Phil Tripp has been organizing the ‘Cops on the Roof’ fundraiser for the past three years and tells WRHI’s Andrew Kiel the glazed-dozen destination has generated a lot of laughs.

The fundraiser continues today as the off-duty officers hope to raise ten-thousand dollars by night’s end.

Tripp says he’s heard every joke in the book about cops and donuts, but his brothers in blue will be out late into the night.

And there’s something in it for you too: For your donation, Krispy Kreme is giving you anywhere from a free doughnut to a free dozen donuts for an entire year.

Earlier this month, officers from across York County took part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, running from Rock Hill City Hall to the York-Chester County line.
