Winthrop officials say a pair of coyote have been spotted in the woods in and around the Winthrop Farm, and are encouraging visitors to use caution in and around the area.

In a statement Wednesday from Winthrop officials, the school has received a permit from the S.C. Department of Natural Resources to trap the animals.

Winthrop University spokeswoman Judy Longshaw said crews will soon install signs notifying visitors of the coyotes at entrances on Eden Terrace and Myrtle Drive.

“Visitors are encouraged to take proper precautions while in the area until further notice,” Longshaw said.
