Economic Development leaders in Tega Cay say despite rough housing markets across the area and across the state, York County’s youngest city managed to fare quite well during the most recent recession.
Tega Cay’s Planning and Development Director, Susan Britt, says the city’s population, now hovering around 8,000, has grown over the last several years
Britt says the epicenter of that growth is in the Stonecrest Development.
The 130-acre site is anchored by a four-acre shopping center and and will soon be a home to a $30 million senior living community known as Wellmore.
Britt said the commercial development side did take a hit during the recession.
But that, too, is on the mend as major retailers like Wal-Mart have set up shop in the city. Once online, Wellmore is expected to employ 130 people.
