Winthrop women’s golf downs Holy Cross

ROCK HILL, SC–The Winthrop women ‘s golf team easily handled Holy Cross in a rare 18-hole dual match played Saturday afternoon at Waterford Golf Club.

Coach Jodi Wendt’s Lady Eagles shot a 25-over 313 on the par 72, 5,900-yard layout while Holy Cross finished with 382. Sophomore Jennifer Dilger (Palmdale, CA) led Winthrop with a 1-over par 73 as she shot 35 on the front nine and finished with 38 on the back.

Junior Meagan Wallace (Charlotte, NC) finished second with a 78 (37-41) and junior Allison Lee (Salisbury, NC) was a shot back at 79 (39-40).

Sophomore Rachel Wyatt (Blythewood, SC) and junior Nicole Mooberry (Norfolk, NE) rounded out the Winthrop scoring with rounds of 83 and 84, respectively. Wendt also played four individuals as sophomore Anna Jenkins (Rock Hill, SC), and freshmen Lucie Walker (Ormskirk, England) and Mary Barbero (Fairfax Station, VA) tied for sixth after finishing with 87s. Sophomore Viivi Nuorti (Helsinki, Finland) tied for 10th place after shooting 93.

Holy Cross was led by Morgan Powers who finished with 92 (46-46) to take 9th place.

Winthrop will return to action March 17-19 when it competes in the C&F Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, VA.
