The president who’s succeeding Anthony DiGiorgio visited Winthrop University today for the first time since being selected last month by the board of trustees. Jayne Marie Comstock addressed the Winthrop community this afternoon during a reception at the West Center. Faculty, staff and students listened to Comstock as she open-heartedly expressed her admiration for Winthrop’s campus, academic achievement and athletic department. Comstock said she anticipates becoming its number-one supporter.

Comstock gave a brief overview of her plans for the future. Of those plans, she mentioned offering new undergraduate and graduate programs at the university.

Comstock said she recognizes that Winthrop is one of the best universities of its kind, but looks forward to implementing programs to not only maintain that status but take it to the next level as well.

Comstock ensured the Winthrop community that she is excited about the new position and looks to uphold its legacy. She will be joined by her husband Larry and their dog Co-Co.
