Authorities say prescription and drug abuse is on the rise among teens and young adults in York County.

In response, York County’s All on Board Coalition is holding a substance abuse summit next week at Winthrop.

Coree Carelock of Keystone Substance Abuse Services, says the scope of the problem is growing.

York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit Commander Marvin Brown — who’s led investigations into hundreds of drug busts over the years — will be one of the speakers next week.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Agent Max Dorsey will provide the latest news on the state’s methamphetamine problem, including the status of legislative activity.

The summit is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Winthrop University.
