This week marks the 119th anniversary of Rock Hill’s Clinton Junior College.

The school Wednesday held its annual 1894 Society Luncheon, featuring one of its most successful graduates.

Bishop George Battle, a 1967 graduate of Clinton Junior College, is the senior bishop of the AME Zion Church. He says the current board chair and president of the historically black school have helped it make the transition to the 21st century.

Battle says Clinton still serves a niche in today’s educational spectrum.

Clinton Junior College will hold its Founders Day Convocation Friday at 10 a.m. at the J.W. Martin Gymnasium.
