A speculative building funded by two area utilities in York County is now under contract.

York County Economic Development Director Mark Farris said Tuesday the building, which sits in the Antrim Business Park off Dave Lyle Blvd., is well on its way to becoming the new home to a high-tech business.

The building Silcotech, Inc., will likely occupy was built using funds from Comporium Communications and York Electric Cooperative that were redirected towards local investment projects.

Farris says $1.3 million in proceeds from the sale of this building will go towards constructing new speculative buildings across York County.

WESTERN EUROPE TRIP SHOWS OFF YORK COUNTY

A recent overseas economic development trip appears to be coming out fruitful in York County’s favor. Farris and nearly a dozen other representatives from South Carolina spent two weeks in Western Europe.

Farris said there was one major draw that set York County apart from other parts of the state.

Farris says as a result, an Italian company that manufactures tubing for HVAC systems is showing interest in York County and may bring with it 15 new jobs.
