The Winthrop women’s basketball team was stunned on Friday during their Big South tournament quarterfinal game by Longwood. The Lady Eagles who came into the game with 20 wins lost 79-67 to the 6th seeded Longwood Lancers. Winthrop led by as many as 11 points at one time, but did not score over an 8 minute stretch in the 2nd half, which led to the loss. 2-time Big South player of the year DeQuesha McClanahan led the way with 23 points, however it took her 29 shots to score those points. What makes the loss even more stunning was the fact that Winthrop defeated Longwood 78-46 just two weeks ago. The Lady Eagles season will continue however as Winthrop will participate in the Women’s College Basketball Invitational.
