After sifting through an applicant pool of 47 prospective candidates, Tega Cay City Council Tuesday night officially named interim City Manager Charlie Funderburk as the new City Manager.

Mayor George Sheppard said Tuesday evening Funderburk’s history with the city was one of his major strong suits.

Funderburk has worked for the city for the last 12 years and was named Interim City Manager in January. Previously, he was the city’s Operations Director.

Funderburk has entered a three-year contract with the city and will earn $90,000 a year.

As part of the new contract, Funderburk will have to move within city limits.

Sheppard said among the applications received in the national search, several were from South Carolina, and several were from city residents.
