Winthrop University’s second of four finalists to be the school’s next president met with reporters today, saying that if Winthrop is to excel in the future, serious considerations need to be made for developing other streams of revenue.
Elizabeth Dale is the Vice President of Advancement at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa.
Dale says Winthrop has unique and special programs she believes will resonate with the philanthropic community
She says the university can expand its geographical reach by exploring online learning opportunities.
During her tenure at Drexel, Dale says she led a team that found a consultant to do a feasibility study of whether the University of Massachusetts should add a Division One football program. She says she’s aware of the costs associated with football.
Dales says for Winthrop to entertain the idea of a future football team — the school needs to have an endowment to correctly and adequately fund the program.
The final two candidates for the president’s job will visit campus next week.
