U.S. Congressman Mick Mulvaney says he’s giving back 12 percent of his office budget for 2012.
The second-term congressman from Indian Land said Thursday he did not use $160,000 in federal funds budgeted for his office expenses.
This comes as Congress’ office budgets took a 6.5% cut in 2012 and a 5% cut in 2011.
“At a time when Americans are tightening their budgets, I have made an effort to do the same with my Congressional office budget. My office has found ways to save money while continuing to provide necessary services to the constituents of the Fifth District, Mulvaney said.
Mulvaney said he returned over $160,000 last year as well.
Mulvaney has asked that House Speaker John Boehner to put the unused funds towards the $16.5 trillion national debt.
