Fifth District Congressman Mick Mulvaney says he’s happy President Obama has opened the door to a free trade agreement between the United States and Europe.

The Indian Land Republican says perhaps nobody has paid a higher price to opening the state and nation to trade than South Carolina.

Mulvaney spoke Friday morning during a legislative breakfast hosted by the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Mulvaney says the more than $1 trillion in automatic spending cuts set to begin March first unless Congress acts to prevent them will ONLY mean 45-million dollars over the next year.

Mulvaney says most agencies scheduled to experience automatic cuts will go no farther than spending levels they had in 2008 and 2009. State Sen. Wes Hayes says the climate is improving in the South Carolina Senate.

Hayes says the climate change is remarkable and that the Senate is starting to pass what he calls good bills.
