After a battle with cancer, and many more serving this country overseas, one of the last few remaining survivors of Pearl Harbor has died.

L.C. Rice of Rock Hill died Monday in hospice. He was 89.

Rice was there in 1941 when the Japanese Bombed Pearl Harbor, and later served in Vietnam and Korea.

Chuck Washburn is the past Commander of the American Legion of Rock Hill and knew Rice for several years.

In the years since his retirement, Rice spent time speaking with Rock Hill schoolchildren in recent years. Rice’s nephew, Dewitt Hull, remembers fondly how he could relate to the students.
