After more than a decade of service, Fort Mill Town Manager David Hudspeth is retiring.

Hudspeth was hired to lead the day-to-day operations of the town 15 years ago and this Friday, wraps up his career leading one of the state’s fastest growing municipalities.

Charlie Powers was Mayor of Fort Mill for 24 years and hired Hudspeth in the late 1990s.

Hudspeth says during his tenure, he’s pleased to have helped raise the caliber of employees that make up the town staff.

Fort Mill Mayor Danny Funderburk says Hudspeth has been the clear, calm voice in keeping the town’s elected leaders focused.

Hudspeth’s replacement comes from not too far away — Dennis Pieper comes to Fort Mill as the former Town Manager of the City of Tega Cay.Pieper was chosen for the post in early December.

Hudspeth says his immediate plans are to stay in Fort Mill and consult for other cities and towns across the nation.
